We carve clay to create distinctive and memorable effects on the clay feature walls and ceilings.

Generally, carving and debossing are most often employed to attract attention or convey a high quality textural contrast in relation to the surrounding area.

Almost any image, text or pattern can be reproduced, please feel free to contact us to discuss the visual appearance desired for your project.

Timing is crucial with this process. If the clay is very wet when you begin carving, it may not have enough strength to hold its shape and the clay around the cuts will sag. If you attempt to make the cuts when the clay is too dry, the clay may crack or chip.

Carving is the process of creating recessed relief images and designs in clay.

An embossed pattern is raised against the background, while a carved and debossed pattern is sunken into the surface of the material. Rather than the clay being raised in specific areas, it is indented.

The verb emboss means to decorate with a raised design so that it stands out in relief.

The opposite of emboss is engrave, to cut or carve a design or letters into a surface.
